About Our Program
Enterprise Academy, located in the Oyster Point Business Park, is a regional alternative program offering a rigorous academic curriculum. Enterprise Academy serves students from Newport News, Hampton, York County, Poquoson and Williamsburg-James City County.
Schedule: Students follow an A/B block schedule and the Newport News Public School calendar.
Curriculum: All instructional courses are in alignment with Newport News Public Schools and meet state SOL requirements. Enterprise follows the grading scale adopted by Newport News Public Schools.
Program Requirements: Participating students and parents must agree to a contract that explains expectations. Enterprise Academy has a required dress code. All students are expected to abide by the rules of conduct of Enterprise Academy and the Newport News Public Schools Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
Who We Serve: Enterprise Academy serves students who are on long-term suspension, who are expelled from regular school programs, who are facing certain community charges or are returning to the community from the state department of corrections or other alternative settings.
Major highlights of the program include a small pupil to teacher ratio, individual instruction, small group instruction, behavioral management and a structured schedule. A weekly progress report provides information on present performance in academics, work-study habits and behavior. Every student is eligible for an individualized student success plan.
All students participate in Youth Development Initiatives, which include Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
GradPoint, a distance learning program, is part of the academic curriculum.
Students will be eligible to participate in different counseling services or groups that will be facilitated by the Instructional Behavioral Specialist and/or Professional School Counselor. Therapeutic Day Treatment counseling services are provided for students that meet eligibility requirements. Additional support services may be available upon request.
